From Luxury To Misery: A Perspective On iPhones

iPhones are one of the earliest products launched by Apple, Inc. The introduction of the first iPhone in 1976 created a revolution in the smartphone industry. A device, complicated yet mesmerizing, has been in constant buzz. For many years now, Apple's iPhones have gained immense popularity. An item of luxury that everyone wished to own.

However, recently, this US tech giant has been facing critical backlash from many tech savvies. Their latest lineup of iPhones, the 15 series, has received mixed reactions from the public. Also, various tech influencers are moving to Android systems from iOS. This also had an impressive impact on the buying pattern. But, is it all that's impacting the brand? Or is there something else? Let's find out.

iPhones Are Not What They Used To Be

Current-generation iPhones are not as premium as they used to be. There are various reasons for this to occur. But the most prominent is the number of devices in the lineup.

In 2016, Apple launched the iPhone X with its multiple variants, namely the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max. This is the first time that the brand has offered more than two devices in the same series. Even though XR became the most popular of all, the rest were flops.

After the X series, the launches of the 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 series followed the same pattern. These multiple options made a few iPhones available at a lower cost than usual. Although the market value increased subsequently, the brand value decreased.

Originally, iPhones were only available to buy at full cost with a single payment. No form of financial product, such as EMI, could be used. But, now, the option has been made available. Thus, iPhone sales have increased dramatically. In addition to this, price drops are also experienced throughout the year on e-commerce platforms. With many people having iPhones, its tag of luxury is no longer valid.

Apart from this, there have been many social media posts mocking the brand that have gone viral. In India, the price-drop effect has had a great influence on sales. But it also turned the situation into ridicule. Does this “high demand” mean the survivability of the brand?

Is It Over For iPhones In 2024?

Apple, in September 2023, launched its 15-series iPhones. With the inclusion of type-C ports in them, people had high expectations. Although in certain parameters, the new series excelled, in others, it disappointed. To help you understand, let's go over the pros and cons.

  • Pros

iPhones are one of the top picks in the smartphone camera category. Along with its smooth performance and OS design, it provides longevity without compromising on performance. In addition to this, it has the highest level of security.

  • Cons

iPhones are always a bit complicated to use due to their UI. But, with daily usage, users get the hang of it. The most common issue faced by its users is how fragile the phone is.

As for 2024 and the future, other brands are working on its build quality to make it durable. On the other hand, in an attempt to make the rear glass panel infused with colour, they made it prone to cracks. As compared to its previous-year models, the 15 Pro Max is more fragile.

Another shocking reveal is the heating issue during charging. With the latest lineup, they introduced a Type-C charging portal, which caused this issue. That too, after the European Union issued a mandate and left them with “no choice." This was exciting news for most Android users shifting to iOS, but some of them had faced overheating issues while charging. This raised serious concerns among the users for their safety and smartphone longevity. It's a no-brainer that Apple has to comply with the user's feedback and resolve the issue. But is it all why Apple is in question.

The Debate of Eternity

Android vs. iPhone is a constant debate among enthusiasts. But is there a rivalry between the two? When such a question arises, there is only one other brand that is talked about, and it's none other than Samsung. Even though they are competitors, the OLED displays on iPhones are manufactured by Samsung. And as for one's choice, both systems are better in their form, and comparison alters from head to head. However, according to current statistics, owning a Samsung is considered more premium than an iPhone.
